After just one episode, ‘Precious’ star Paula Patton has bowed out of her new role as an ADA on ‘Law & Order: SVU.’ The reason? She’ll be in ‘Mission Impossible 4.’

Melissa Sagemiller of TNT’s ‘Raising the Bar’ will replace Patton on the hit NBC series. Patton was tapped to play ADA Mikka Von on a recurring basis, but now she’ll appear in one episode before Sagemiller takes on the recurring ADA role in October.

According to TV Guide, Sagemiller will be an ADA from Brooklyn who respects Stabler and Benson.

Executive producer Neal Baer said Patton’s character will go out in a big way.

“Right before Paula started her first episode — which she’s shooting right now — she was offered a test for ‘Mission Impossible 4,’” Baer told TV Guide Magazine. “We had a contract, but I don’t want to stand in someone’s career path if they’re going to be in a huge feature film with Tom Cruise. So when she got that role, we recast ours.”

Sagemiller appeared in a 2000 episode of ‘SVU’ as Becky Sorenson. Her other TV credits include an episode of ‘The Guardian,’ ‘Sleeper Cell’ and ‘Without a Trace.’

Breaking News from Deadline Hollywood!

EXCLUSIVE: Paula Patton has landed that female lead role that Deadline told you she was testing for, alongside actresses Lauren German and Kristen Kreuk. I’m told that Patton will play a young operative who works with Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character. The film will not be called Mission: Impossible 4. Cruise and JJ Abrams, who hatched the project together, always envisioned it as a franchise reboot. The film begins production in the fall with Brad Bird directing Cruise, who’ll co-star with The Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner in what was another hotly contested role. Paramount co-finances the $150 million film with David Ellison’s Skydance banner. It marks the first film for Cruise and Paramount since he left the studio after generating over $3 billion in worldwide grosses for Paramount. [Source]

Congrats Paula!

While Robin Thicke’s lovely wife, Paula Patton, was filming her guest role on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” at the Empire Hotel on Monday, the singer had domestic chores to do. A source tells us Thicke was in the upper West Side hotel’s Lobby Bar, interviewing nannies for the couple’s 4-month old son, Julian Fuego. Don’t put those résumés away just yet, ladies and gentle-mannies: There’s no word if any of the “handful” of aspiring caregivers won over the “Sex Therapy” crooner.

Paula gushed about her hubby in the March issue of Women’s Health, where she’s the cover girl. And, as it turns out Robin even sent flowers to the photo shoot. A few days ago I added pictures from the shoot and below you can read a couple of excerpts.

“He makes me feel beautiful,” she shared. “That’s the best thing about having a partner — there is someone to tell you, ‘Stop it. You look great!’ Of course, he can’t say anything else — he’s been trained.”

You can get into that cycle of ‘What’s next? What’s next?’ But I thought, I want to have children, and I’m not getting any younger. I didn’t know if it would be hard for me to get pregnant. He’s so proud of himself, its ridiculous.

The older I get, the more I accept and appreciate myself. I know if I enrich my mind and spirit, then I’ll feel good. And when you feel good about yourself, it can’t help but reflect on your outer beauty.

Actress Paula Patton has revealed that her R&B singer husband Robin Thicke is thrilled he got her pregnant so soon after she came off the Pill.

The 34-year-old Precious star said: ‘He’s so proud of himself, it’s ridiculous.’

But Patton, who plays teacher Ms Rain in the award-winning movie, admitted that there are some pros to being an expectant mother – like being able to cut back on her gym sessions.

She said: ‘A year ago, I started doing Ashtanga yoga five or six days a week… [But] I’ve cut back during my pregnancy. I told my trainer I don’t want to see the inside of a gym.’

Here’s an article from People.com who Robin recently spoke to about Ms. Paula and he discusses their name choices for the baby and we learn when she’s due.

As Robin Thicke gets ready to become a father, he can check one item off his to-do list: the baby’s name.

“We like Julian if it’s a boy and Isabella if it’s a girl,” he told PEOPLE Saturday while hosting at The Bank nightclub in Las Vegas.

Thicke’s wife, Paula Patton, is due with their first child in May.

“My wife is good,” he said, “I’m just trying to make her as comfortable as possible and hopefully nature will take care of the rest and give us a healthy baby.” [Source]

The L.A. Times Blog posted news recently about Ms. Patton and it was just lovely.

The Oscar buzz continues to mount for Lee Daniels’ “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire,” as both the film and one of its stars, Paula Patton, took top honors at the 31st Aspen Filmfest, which ran from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4. “Precious” was named Audience Favorite Feature, while Patton, who attended the fest with her husband, singer Robin Thicke, won Artist to Watch.

Other Aspen winners included director Jason Reitman, who earned the New Directions Award for “Up in the Air,” itself a major contender for the 2010 Oscars, who introduced his father, producer-director Ivan Reitman, before an on-stage chat moderated by Times contributor Mark Olsen. Veteran actor-director Stanley Tucci received the Independent by Nature award and was feted by his “Lovely Bones” director Peter Jackson via video. Greg Barker’s “Sergio,” about the convoluted life of U.N. diplomat Sergio Viera de Mello, was named Audience Favorite Documentary.

“Precious” opens in limited release on Nov. 6, while “Air” is slated for Dec. 25. [Source]

It was looking a little grim there for the 2009 Sundance award winning film Push who for a couple of weeks now had not acquired a distributor; but now thanks to a wonderful trio the film will be released. As per Variety:

Lionsgate has acquired Sundance Film Festival winner Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire. Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry will team up to help promote the film.

Directed by Lee Daniels from an adapted script by Damien Paul, Push became only the third film in Sundance history to win the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Awards in the U.S. Dramatic Competition last month. Film stars newcomer Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe, Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz.

Project reteams Lionsgate and Daniels for the first time since Monster’s Ball.

Push revolves around an overweight, illiterate African-American teen in Harlem who is about to give birth to her second child when she is accepted into an alternative school.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. The moment I saw Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire, I knew I wanted to do whatever I could to encourage other people to see this movie. The film is so raw and powerful–it split me open,” Winfrey said.

Winfrey and Perry will promote Push through their respective film companies, Harpo Films and 34th Street Films.

Lionsgate prexy of acquisitions and co-productions Jason Constantine announced the deal.

Paula is now in Utah for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival! She made an appearance at the kick off party with her hubby last night. Push premieres tonight so hopefully there will be more pictures then.

I know I’m jumping around here, but I want to go back and talk about
working with some of the actors and crew I loved. Lenny Kravitz is
like a brother to me. He plays a nurse; what a rock star! And I
don’t mean that literally. Mo’Nique, she gave me her soul and then some. Paula Patton rolled up her sleeves and dove right in. Gabby, what a find! What a miracle! The group of
girls Precious befriends when she enrolls into her new school were my
puppets on a string that made magic happen. I’m sure I’m forgetting
other actors, but I’ll say these actors made my life happy and my
heart smile. It was an honor to work with them.
