32-year old Paula Patton is making quite a splash in Hollywood these days. Apart from playing an ambitious journalist who has an impact on the life of Kevin Costner in the wry comedy Swing Vote, the actress will also be seen opposite Kiefer Sutherland in the horror film Mirrors, due out later this year.

Her family lived across the street from the 20th Century Fox lot when she was growing up and she was a fan of films from her earliest years. Her mother, who also appreciated good films, was a schoolteacher, and her father was a lawyer. Paula claims that as a girl she would escape by “pretending to be someone else” so it was not a surprise that she acted in high school plays at Hamilton Magnet Arts High School. Her favorite role was that of “Abigail” in The Crucible.

Welcome to the new version of Paula-Patton.net, literally months overdue. Although I didn’t quite finish up all the pages, new features, etc., I really wanted the site to be fresh for Swing Vote – which is now in US theatres! I will have some more things to add (content wise) as well as switching over the gallery’s theme when I have time.

Noteably you may notice we have a new design, as well as I’ve now switched to the fabulous WordPress for our news system. I haven’t lost any old articles, so all the news since day one is here for archived reading.

I would now like to get your attention on one of my many promised updates. Lots and lots of Paula magazine scans! Most of these are totally new, and I’m sure you will enjoy them as much as I do. So without further ados, check them out in the gallery. Some of my favorites are below.

Just when it’s tough out there for a female to get quality roles, Paula Patton has manage to score not just one, but two good roles this August, The first of them is a role opposite Kevin Costner in Swing Vote.

Swing Vote, which opens on August 1st, deals with the story of an election set somewhere in the near future where Bud Johnson (Kevin Costner), a lovable loser, who is coasting through a life and has not a political thought in his head, is thrust into an improbable dilemma. In response, he is coaxed on by his 12-year-old daughter Molly (Madeline Carroll) to take more of a serious approach to life. Molly runs the household and sees an opportunity on election day to energize her father. The election is a “dead heat” with the sole deciding ballot in the hands of a mystified Bud, who is being wooed by candidates from both sides.

What attracted you to this role?

Apologies for no updates in a while. I have been away. (read here) But without any further delays I’d like to take my time now to catch up the site.

Paula is featured in the August issue of Esquire. I am working on getting a copy for scans. She’s also attended a few events in my absence. I’ve added pictures of those to the gallery. I will have many ‘real’ updates soon (I have been sorting events, caps, scanning my Paula collection, etc) and I promise the overdo revamp will be coming this time! In time for Paula’s big month of August. And the site will be like new. Time flew this year and I simply got caught up with other things and this site was put to the back burner a bit, but no more! I really want to make this a proper Paula Patton tribute as my love for her has grown (I started this a small ‘mini’ tribute). I hope you’ll check back for all the goodies!

Last night was the premiere of Swing Vote! All I have to say is Hollywood take notice – Paula Patton is here! How gorgeous was our girl looking?! She wore a form fitting orange number and was so cute as she radiated smiles and happiness. I really get happy just looking at her here! I’ve added a lot of MQ photos, enjoy!

The trailer for Mirrors debuted the other day like mentioned and we get to see a lot of Paula! I totally love her look in the movie and I’m a big Alexandre Aja fan so I’m really looking forward to this one on August 15! I really like it’s a bit darker material for her too.

In more trailer news, I just saw the preview for Swing Vote (due out in August 1st) is also online here. Yay! Two Paula films in one month :D. I will likely see this one although it doesn’t really appeal to me outside of Miss Patton, but of course more Paula makes me happy so I’m there either way!

And lastly our girl is in the new WWD Scoop magazine. I just picked it up today and I will be scanning this tomorrow after work. It features a new pic and article!

Check out the newly launched official site for Mirrors at www.mirrorsmovie.com. Over there you can view a handful of new stills, which some new ones do feature our gorgeous Paula.

Furthermore, the teaser trailer is slated to premiere sometime today (Wednesday, June 11) on Yahoo! Movies. When possible I will be making the screencaps and posting the new stills.

Here are the two first stills of Paula playing Amy Carson in Alexandre Aja’s Mirrors. I just got really excited, as Paula looks incredible in the stills, I totally am loving this look and can’t wait! The film is due for release in the US on August 15, 2008.

A mall security guard becomes wrapped up in a mystery involving a particular department store’s mirrors which seem to bring out the worst in people.

Check out the very first stills of Miss Patton from Swing Vote! The film is due out August 1, 2008 (US). Paula plays Kate Madison.

Bud Johnson, an apathetic, beer-slinging, lovable loser, is coasting through a life that has passed him by. The one bright spot is his precocious, over-achieving twelve year-old daughter Molly. She takes care of both of them, until one mischievous moment on Election Day, when she accidentally sets off a chain of events which culminates in the election coming down to one vote… her dad’s.

Coming to dvd tomorrow April 23 is Deja Vu. Here is a DVD review which might make you intrigured to give it a rent. I know I will.

From About Hollywood Movies

The Bottom Line
Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington and director Tony Scott team up for the third time with Deja Vu, an intense sci-fi/thriller also starring Val Kilmer, Paula Patton and Adam Goldberg. Featuring one of the most unusual car chase sequences on film, Deja Vu is an incredibly entertaining thrill ride with a couple of interesting twists.

Pros
- A truly intriguing story
- Great acting and great action sequences
- Decent collection of bonus features

Cons
- None worth noting

Features
- ‘The Surveillance Window’ – Behind-the-scenes featurettes on the ferry explosion, filming in New Orleans, and more
- 5 deleted scenes with optional commentary by director Tony Scott
- 3 extended scenes with optional commentary

Bonus Features: Review
I’m really impressed by the ‘Surveillance Window’ feature on the Deja Vu DVD. Set the Surveillance Window feature to on and then start the film (the commentary track with director Tony Scott, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and writer Bill Marsilii will begin). As specific scenes (including the ferry explosion and split-time car chase) take place, behind-the-scenes featurettes will give viewers an in-depth look at different aspects of the production.
