I wanted to let all of our loyal visitors know that this site will likely not be updated a whole lot until the end of April from me. I am going to be traveling and my internet access will be very minimal. But I will try and update the site as much as I can, if possible. Also this regards e-mail replies and comments approval. If the hiatus will last longer than a month, I will be sure to update on it again. But rest assured, I will update as soon as I can and if something big breaks while I’m gone I’m sure Qua will keep you updated!

Meanwhile, check out here for the latest news and here for the newest images.

Glamour Magazine and Hollywood’s biggest stars have come together for the mags 70th Anniversary issue (April 2009) to pay homage and celebrate seven decades of female risk takers, rule breakers, and style makers.

Paula Patton is Bille Holiday.

As an aspiring singer, Holiday suffered sexual abuse, struggled with a drug habit and encountered racism everywhere. But the late Lady Day—one of the first African American women to sing with an all-white orchestra—translated all of that pain into some of the most achingly personal songs ever recorded. (Download “Strange Fruit,” which she sang at her 1948 Carnegie Hall concert, and listen for yourself.)

“You can imagine that women at home hearing her songs on the radio felt her vocalizing their emotions and their struggles.”—Paula Patton, 33, of the upcoming drama Push, wearing Holiday’s trademark gardenia in her hair

It was looking a little grim there for the 2009 Sundance award winning film Push who for a couple of weeks now had not acquired a distributor; but now thanks to a wonderful trio the film will be released. As per Variety:

Lionsgate has acquired Sundance Film Festival winner Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire. Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry will team up to help promote the film.

Directed by Lee Daniels from an adapted script by Damien Paul, Push became only the third film in Sundance history to win the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Awards in the U.S. Dramatic Competition last month. Film stars newcomer Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe, Mo’Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz.

Project reteams Lionsgate and Daniels for the first time since Monster’s Ball.

Push revolves around an overweight, illiterate African-American teen in Harlem who is about to give birth to her second child when she is accepted into an alternative school.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. The moment I saw Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire, I knew I wanted to do whatever I could to encourage other people to see this movie. The film is so raw and powerful–it split me open,” Winfrey said.

Winfrey and Perry will promote Push through their respective film companies, Harpo Films and 34th Street Films.

Lionsgate prexy of acquisitions and co-productions Jason Constantine announced the deal.

I’ve finally been able to add all of the screencaps for Deja Vu to the gallery for your viewing pleasure. In total 866 screencaps were made of the movie itself… but I also capped deleted scenes as well as the main menu. The film is simply genius and Paula did an amazing job as Claire Kuchever.

Push was one of the biggest crowd pleasers this year at Sundance, the film earned several wonderful reviews and even picked up some awards at the closing festival! This is fantastic news! There is even heavy acclaim for Mo’Nique (Oscar rumors!), Gabourey Sidibe, Mariah Carrey and Paula.

This from EW:

The early buzz seemed almost absurd — Mo’Nique, what are you wearing to the Oscars? — but after all was said and done, director Lee Daniels and the cast of Push: Based on the novel by Sapphire emerged from the 2009 Sundance Film Festival victorious. The harrowing film won both the Audience and Grand Jury awards in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, as well as a Special Jury Prize for Mo’Nique’s performance as the unbearably cruel mother to Precious Jones, an obese, illiterate girl struggling to survive growing up in Harlem. “Insanely awesome” is how first-time actress Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) described the culmination to her whirlwind of a festival. “I feel like I live in a bubble. Like this isn’t real. Like this is the land of Oz or something.”

Push works on so many different levels,” said Sundance director Geoffrey Gilmore after the ceremony, held at Park City’s Racquet Club Saturday night. “It has such an emotional power to it, but it’s not just some kind of sentimental bath. You don’t understand that film until you watch the whole thing. You can’t say we’ve seen this before. You haven’t seen this before.”
